Kruger National Park

I have just returned from a quick trip to the Kruger National Park. How dreadful the lower part of the park looks after the devastating veld fire earlier this year. So much flora and forna was destroyed and there are miles and miles of dead wood. The grasses are growing again but there is very little game wondering around compared to previous years and very little foliage for them to hide behind in most areas. What a shame. The middle area between Skukuza and Satara Camps was not as badly burnt and most of the streams and rivers are dry, dry, dry. The Sabie River seemed to be fullish and was flowing well.

We saw lions, hippos. giraffe, black rhino, zebra, wildebees, buffalo, impala, bushbuck, waterbuck, kudu, eland and steenbuck as well as warthogs rolling in the mud in a dryish water hole. I took some nice photos and hope to paint one or two of them. Here are a few shots of the animals I saw.

I also saw lots of bats resting in the shade of the roof over the outside tables at the restaurant at Skukuza and also the biggest snail I have ever seen crossing the road.
